Sharp and Pioneer have announced Photoremo@Navi Ver1.0, a new data standard for communications between mobile phones and car navigation systems. Using Photoremo technology, originally developed by Sharp for communication between mobile phones and home appliances, the joint venture will eventually allow Photoremo@Navi-based mobile phones and car GPS systems to exchange information such as an expected arrival time calculated by a navigation system, or notification via the GPS sytem of received calls or emails on a connected mobile phone. All the data transfer is accomplished with Bluetooth or infrared rays.
Pioneer hopes that the new technology will be able to enable navigation users to quickly update points of interest and other variables, as well as exchange such information with friends. So far no availability date has been set for a commercial release of the technology as a software update in current car navigation systems isn’t sufficient for Photoremo@Navi compatibility.
