A new report from Parks Associates entitled “GPS: A Path To New Applications On Mobile Devices” states that shipments of GPS-enabled mobile devices will grow about 40% yearly over the next five years, culminating in 834 million units shipped in 2012. The report not only includes PND’s in those numbers, but also mobile and smart phones, portable media players, and personal digital assistants (PDAs), and while mobile handsets and smartphones will constitute the majority of shipments up until 2012, PND’s will still remain the most widely used and preferred navigational device. Looks like PND’s won’t be dead as soon as some of us thought.
