BuddyMob Android app upgraded, coming for the iPhone

buddymob Popular Android app BuddyMob set to undergo an upgrade, coming for the iPhoneBuddyMob, the popular social messaging Android application, is set to undergo an upgrade in the next few weeks.  Currently the free application, created by Belgian company Kiboo, enables users to login to and update several messaging accounts simultaneously.  Compatible networks include Twitter, Google Talk, AIM and MSN.  In the next couple of weeks, new services will be added including Facebook and Yahoo Messenger, and updated support for Google Talk and AIM will be integrated.

BuddyMob will also expand its focus to “meeting people”, enabling users to geotarget their profiles by location, and add features such as age and sex.  Messaging will also be updated on a BuddyMob feed by all users so you can see what other users near you are doing.

Because BuddyMob pushes messages in near real-time to other social networks it uses something called the XMPP protocol.  However, not all carriers support it resulting in connectivity problems for some BuddyMob users.  The app will be updated to automatically switch to the HTTP protocol if this is the case which should eliminate the connection problems caused by certain carriers.  Furthermore, in order to expand its geographical reach BuddyMob will be translated into French and German versions as well.

iPhone and iPod Touch users will also be able to get their hands on BuddyMob in June incorporating the new features available via the recently released 3.0 SDK.  The company is also working on a Symbian application which should be available later in 2009.
