Archos 605 GPS Brings Navigation To Your PMP

Archos, known for its high-end portable media players, just added GPS to their resume with the announcement of the Archos 605 GPS.Â Looks like this is the Archos announcement we were expecting tomorrow.Â A combination of the Archos 605 wireless media player and navigational unit, the Archos 605 GPS uses a SiRFStar III receiver chip embedded in a car cradle, in which once the PMP is docked, supplies traffic directions and more advanced features typically only seen on higher-end dedicated GPS units such as live traffic updates, accident reports, and even routing estimation should the unit fail to maintain its satellite lock.

Not only will the Archos 605 GPS be shipped in May with 30GB of memory priced at $400, current owners of the Archos 605 PMP will also be able to purchase the add-on separately for $130. Expected to be shipped globally, North American users will receive preloaded maps of North America with the Archos 605 GPS as well as maps of both Europe and China.
