Posimotion’s G-Fi and G-Fi VS., first mentioned here last March, have officially launched at CES 2009. G-Fi is a “mobile GPS network router” that is not actually an internet-connected router, but rather facilitates a peer-to-peer connection between devices. It’s still up to the individual devices to connect to the web. While the main focus of G-Fi is the iPhone or iPod Touch, it can work with any Wi-Fi device and get GPS data. G-Fi VS. is the same but lacks the GPS.
Both devices are about the size of a pack of cards and run off of a USB-charged battery limiting the usable range to just a few meters. Posimotion has a couple of apps available from Apple’s app store to demonstrate the technology including G-Park and G-Spot. G-Spot is a simple application that finds your location and displays it on Google Maps. G-Park uses G-Fi’s GPS to assist you in finding your car in crowded parking lots.
Posimotion’s G-Fi and G-Fi VS. are now available, costing $179 and $149 respectively.
