rogers logo Rogers bringing 4G LTE to Vancouver by February 2010Canada’s Rogers spilled the beans on its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) plans yesterday, and if all goes according to schedule, Vancouverites will get first dibs on the fourth generation network in time for the Olympics in February 2010.

The wireless provider says deployment plans are ahead of schedule and download speeds of 50 Mbps have already been achieved without optimization.  Next February the company won’t have any 4G handsets available but will provides up to 70 Mbps on the downlink via a compatible USB stick.

Once the Olympics are over and done with, Rogers intends to expand the LTE network into further regions and by the end of March 2010 will have 4G phones in the hands of subscribers.

Update: apparently this news sourced from Boy Genius is in dispute.  BGR says the tip was received from an anonymous source who has provided accurate information in the past.  Rogers, however, is denying it.  Head over to BGR for the a partial Rogers statement and some convincing audio evidence the wireless provider is full of shit.  Disclosure: I hate Rogers!  If you think Sprint’s customer service was poor in the past, you obviously need to head to Canada and sign a Rogers contract for some perspective.
