Taiwan-based Samwell Group has added the Ruggedbook SR659 to its line of Ruggedbook rugged tablet and ultra-mobile PCs.  The SR659, considered a semi-rugged UMPC, is a light 1.95 pound tablet device with dimensions of 8.1 x 5.3 inches and a 1.2 inch thickness.  Its resistive touchscreen measures a fair-sized 7 inches diagonally and sports 1024 x 600 pixel, WSVGA resolution enhanced by a 250 nit backlight.

Powered by the 1 GHz Via Nano U1700 CPU with an 800 MHz front side bus and 1 MB L2 cache, the Ruggedbook SR659 features 1 GB of DDR2 SDRAM, Via Vx700 graphics, and runs on either Windows XP Tablet PC Edition or Windows XP Embedded.  Storage comes in the form of either a 1.8 inch, 30 GB hard drive or a 16 GB flash card, and two USB ports, two mini-USB port, and both PC and SD card slots are also included.

GPS is optional and is enabled by an external tuner, while 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR are native to the Ruggedbook SR659.  Other specifications include optional dual 1.3 megapixel cameras, one of which is mounted on the front while the other is placed on the back; RJ-45, video, audio input/output connections; and, a fingerprint reader and stereo speakers.

Designed for the mobile field worker, the Ruggedbook SR659 has an unlisted price but looks to be currently available.
