samsung i8910 hd Samsung grabs NAVTEQ navigation for its 2009 smartphonesDigital map and location data provider, NAVTEQ, has reached an agreement with Samsung to provide mapping and navigation for the company’s handsets.  It’s an interesting tie-up, as Samsung is the world’s second largest mobile phone manufacturer, while Nokia, owner of NAVTEQ, is the world’s largest.

Under the agreement, Samsung will have access to all 76 countries covered by NAVTEQ and a variety of navigational features including 3D maps, lane guidance, pedestrian and public transit-specific navigation, and speed limit information.

The first handset to integrate NAVTEQ data will be the Samsung i8910 HD (also known as the Omnia HD), a GPS-enabled smartphone that will be released in Europe this month.
