Samsung will launch a mobile application store for Windows Mobile and Symbian handets at the Mobile World Congress, likely for markets outside of the UK.

According to InformationWeek, the Samsung app store will provide handset owners over-the-air browsing, purchasing, and application installation much like Apple’s iTunes app store.  Although Samsung hasn’t announced how payments will be handled or how revenues will be split with developers, freeware and commercial content will be able to be distributed through the app store.

Samsung launched a store in the United Kingdom January 29 with 1, 100 applications.  It’s expected that the MWC announcement will include other markets such as the United States.  App developers can get more information from the company’s Mobile Innovator website and the UK portal is available here.
