Sanyo’s Gorilla PND will be hitting Japan July 18 and has some impressive features. Boasting a large 5.8-inch TFT LCD touchscreen with 345, 600 pixel, the Gorilla, also known as the Sanyo NV-SD585DT, features a 4GB solid state drive for not only multimedia storage but also huge databases of phone numbers and addresses that are easily searchable. The powerful Gorilla engine allows the NV-SD585DT to perform all kinds of non-navigational functions including music playback and one-seg TV broadcasting and recording. A built-in FM transmitter allows users to receive real-time traffic information, an eco-drive feature optimizes the user’s driving style for minimizing fuel use, and the Osaka Police Force even has a hand in the Gorilla, so to speak, incorporating warnings when you enter a theft hotspot in Osaka. When the Sanyo Gorilla hits Japan July 18, expect to pay about 90, 000 Yen (US$846) to get your hands on one.
