Navigation company Savant has the OnPar golf GPS unit ready for release next month.  The unit is the company’s first realm into the golf GPS world, and while looks can be deceiving, the OnPar looks impressive.  With an iPhone-like form factor, the GPS unit allows the user to zoom and pan golf course maps using finger swipes on its large, 3.5-inch touchscreen.  It can store maps for up to 300 courses, provides club recommendations and tracks scores and shot history.

It could face some stiff competition from Garmin’s Approach G5 golf GPS handheld that launched at CES earlier this month.  But I got to say, OnPar’s form factor is oh, so much more attractive.

just FYI - the OnPar is now available for purchase. It seems pretty cool (I saw a user review here http://criticalgolf.com/?page_id=100) but I am left wondering how responsive and accurate the touch screen is. Are there other touch screen units for golf that are going to be released soon?
