Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo gets a GPS iPhone app

The Seattle Zoo iPhone application is something I wish we saw more of in the mobile application industry–an app with actual utility. In the age of ubiquitous friend-finding and boring me-too apps, the Seattle Zoo iPhone application not only provides an opportunity for some location-based zoological education, but also donates the full $0.99 price tag to animal care, education programs and conversation within the zoo itself.

Features of the Seattle Zoo iPhone app include:

  • a GPS-powered zoo map that offers a “Near Me” menu option that points users toward different exhibits, concessions, etc
  • an integrated daily schedule of zoo events
  • a “Friend Finder” that helps you locate your party members on the zoo grounds

You can download the app from the iTunes App Store here.
