While mobile phones may be eating into the market share of portable GPS navigation devices, the PND will still be around for some time. I wonder though, if retailers and e-tailers will have a tougher time selling them in the next couple of years without a little extra work. For a $100 to $200 purchase, paying $5 to $20 for shipping is high, but it tends to be the norm online. The question I’d like to see answered is how much shipping costs adversely affect PND sales online.
According to a recent Compete study, shipping costs likely have cost e-tailers many a PND sale. In fact, 38% of the time, unhappy customers became unhappy because of the shipping costs tacked onto the purchase price of an online good.
