SitOrSquat, a user-generated public toilet mapping and ratings website we profiled in December, has grown quickly in the past few months, announcing today it’s been sponsored by toilet paper brand Charmin.
Since it launched, SitOrSquat now has an inventory of 52, 000 public toilets in 10 countries, has been accessed online over half a million times, and has been downloaded 1, 600 times in mobile format for the iPhone and Blackberry. Both mobile apps use GPS to derive your location in order to find public bathrooms near you–and let you know whether they’re up to the task of “sitting”. The company is also working on applications for Android and Windows Mobile for release in the near future.
It’s an interesting choice for Charmin as the site has a relatively small user base. But at the same time by pairing with a big-name brand, SitOrSquat could grow faster just by way of the attention brought to it. Over time this would benefit Charmin, a company that probably didn’t pay much to get its wiggly-butted bear on the site’s homepage. There will be substantial brand recognition there too given the bear’s butt adorns millions of televisions during primetime viewing every night.
