Some pundits are betting on the demise of the portable navigation system in favor of GPS-enabled mobile phones, so we were surprised to see one company to move the automotive GPS system from one spot on the windshield to another. That other spot being the rearview mirror. The SmartMirror GPS system, previously known as the DS400GB, replaces the conventional rearview mirror. It looks exactly the same but has a rear-facing cam input, Navigon Mobile Navigator 6.5 inside, a 4-inch touchscreen, reality view, integrated speakers, Bluetooth, and an SD card slot. The SmartMirror will be available August 1 for $799.
