Sony has launched the HDR-TG5V Handycam camcorder, a small, lightweight model that is built for travelers.  The Handycam camcorder captures 1920 x 1080 resolution video and 4 megapixel photos, all of which can be packed in to 16 GB of flash memory.  In total, the flash memory can store up to six hours of HD video in LP mode.

The HDR-TG5V has a 2.7-inch LCD touchscreen panel that flips out, and Smile Shutter and Face Detection technology assists you in properly capturing quality video and pictures.  Also, the Handycam features a Carl Zeiss Vaio-Tessar lens with 10x optical zoom, built-in flash, BIONZ image processing and an Exmor CMOS sensor.

Furthermore, the HDR-TG5V has a built-in GPS sensor complemented by NAVTEQ digital maps so users can geotag the location of specific photos and video clips.

Coming in May 2009, the Sony HDR-TG5V Handycam is expected to cost roughly $1000.
