Spotigo’s HyPS hybrid positioning system aims at Skyhook Wireless

spotigo logo Spotigos HyPS hybrid positioning system aims at Skyhook WirelessSpotigo, a company that specializes in mobile positioning, has launched its integrated HyPS hybrid positioning solution.  Rather than relying solely on GPS or cell tower triangulation, HyPS combines Wi-Fi, GPS and cellular ID technologies to enhance positioning accuracy.

Prior to the launch of HyPS, Spotify, which has offices in Spain and Germany, focused on Wi-Fi positioning only.  The company says the hybrid solution is aimed at location-based service providers and hardware manufacturers.

Skyhook Wireless, based in the United States, is an obvious direct competitor to Spotify.  Not only did the company, which provides location information for iPhone applications, launch with a Wi-Fi hotspot database for positioning but now have a hybrid XPS platform.
