American wireless carrier Sprint has launched the Motorola r765IS rugged handheld for its iDEN network. The push-to-talk product features MIL Spec 810F credentials making it impervious to environmental extremes whether water, dust, solar rays, shock or temperature.
Because it’s built for commercial applications, Motorola built the r765IS to emit little energy, reducing the chances of it igniting chemical vapors, gas or other flammable materials. Users can also add a second line with a different area code that can be billed separately as well.
Most of the basic features are pretty run-of-the-mill. Included is NextMail which enables users to attach voicemail to email messages, Bluetooth, GPS navigation, a built-in speaker, and an emergency calling mode that can connect to emergency services from anywhere.
The $2, 000 r765IS has a talk time of 4 hours and 20 minutes and a standby time of 140 hours.
