space stars Star Droid Android app augments your earthly location with space infoWhen most of us think about GPS from an end user perspective, we probably think of uses on Earth or at least within its atmosphere.  But in the very near future Google plans to turn our assumptions upside-down with a new Android application.

Star Droid for Android will locate your position on terra firma via GPS and then compare it with space maps to help you locate heavenly bodies including planets and stars.  When you look at the night sky through your Android phone’s viewfinder you’ll see stars and planets tagged with their respective names.  Interesting stuff.

Star Droid is expected to be available through Google’s Android Market sometime in the next few weeks for free.
