Old Media Devastation On A Google Map

Newspaper Layoffs Google MashupWhile one of the latest Google Earth mashups lets you consume your news superimposed on Google Maps, the folks over at Papercuts which tracks layoffs and buyouts at major newspapers has come up with a Google mashup that maps locations and layoff numbers on a Google map.  It’s pretty cool and if you head over to the site you’ll be treated to a bunch of other mashups that cover everything from pothole locations to St. Louis homicides.

GeoTwitterous: Location-Based Twitter Feed Updates

GeoTwitterous

GeoTwitterous, a Google Maps/Yahoo Pipes mashup for Twitter users, displays your Twitter network feed on a map giving you a location-based look at your Twitter friends.  Not a terribly dynamic mashup, all’s you initially see on the map is tags placed on your friends’ locations pulled from their location on their Twitter personal information, or failing that, location-based info written into their tweets.

You have to actually click on the tags to see the updates giving it a pretty static look.  One other issue you may face is that is a Twitter network member doesn’t provide her location in her profile, location-based info pulled from the feed could place your friend thousands of miles away from where she actually is.  Kinda neat nonetheless.
