Mio’s Knight Rider GPS Gets Put To The Test

It’s nice to see that after all the hype and hoopla surrounding the Mio Knight Rider GPS someone has finally actually reviewed its performance. PCMag has put it to the test and were impressed by its added Canadian maps, 58 POI categories, quick routing and re-routing calculations, and easy to navigate menu system. However, the Knight Rider doesn’t have a built-in traffic receiver; you have to purchase the receiver separately with a subscription. This is its big downfall, because aside from the voice of KITT and unique design, the Knight Rider GPS is virtually identical to the Mio Moov 300 and Moov 310 in terms of features. And the Moov 310 includes live traffic while costing $20 less. But let’s face it, if you’re buying the Knight Rider you’re looking to buy 80’s cool and you know it!

Mio has been flaunting the new Knight Rider GPS for a few weeks now, building all kinds of anticipation in the portable GPS market. While we’ve seen it and know what it can do, we really want to know now when we can have it and how much it’ll cost. Mio’s made it official now, announcing the Knight Rider’s availability in consumer electronics chains in North America later in the 3rd quarter (we’ve heard August 8), tagged with an MSRP of US$269.95.
The Mio Knight Rider GPS is unique in that it’s an entertainment-branded PND. Mio’s Knight Rider GPS Gets Release Date, More Details

When we first told you about Mio’s fancy looking Knight Rider GPS unit a couple of days back, we couldn’t find a whole lot of details about it. But now Mio has came out and given the world an official release date of August 8, pricing the unit at $269. Sure enough it will feature the voice of William Daniels, KITT from Knight Rider, and according to Crave, “there will be a database of names so you can customize the device to have KITT personally greet and talk to you (provided that your name is included)”. Mio still hasn’t released an official spec sheet yet, but expect the navigational features to be similar to the Mio Moov 310/300, sans real-time traffic. Oh, we can’t wait!

Mio Knight Rider GPS: Combining Comics With Navigation, So Creative

Nothing more to say right now other than the Mio Knight Rider GPS unit is just plain hot. That’s because details are sparse, but come on, a GPS unit with comic book character branding! It doesn’t get much better than that, does it? It does actually, because it does feature voice prompts by none other than KITT William Daniels. Take a quick glance at the pic above and you’ll notice red LED’s on each side of the unit. They’re meant to represent the hood-mounted lights on KITT’s car. Awesome, and the price tag doesn’t look to bad either at $299 when it’s released. We just hope you’re not paying for the Knight Rider brand, but with Mio we’re pretty sure this will be a full-featured GPS system.
