Tele Atlas runs rampant in Africa, 8 more countries mapped

As digital mapmakers race to map the most remote corners of the globe, Tele Atlas’ announcement of navigable databases for 8 new African countries available today, is a biggie.

Notoriously difficult to map, Africa could one day be a huge market for portable navigation devices and location-based services as it develops.  By mapping Angola, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, Tele Atlas is well on its way to grabbing a piece of this substantial pie.  Furthermore, accurate maps of these territories will add a powerful weapon to the arsenals of development agencies fighting poverty in Africa.

The African database also covers the French Overseas territories of Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion, Saint Barthélemy and Saint Martin.
