It was only a matter of time before the Palm Pre was officially announced for European release, and sure enough the first GSM version of the webOS smartphone was granted to Telefonica this morning. “In time for the holidays,” O2 will grab the Palm Pre for the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany, while Movistar will carry the phone in Spain. Palm hasn’t announced availability dates yet, but on the German signup notification page you’ll find an expected October date.
The European version of the Palm Pre is different from the United States’ Sprint version and Canada’s upcoming Bell Mobility Pre in that it also includes a GSM radio including HSDPA. As for pricing, that’s an unknown for now as well but it’ll probably be pricier than in North America.
