TomTom iPhone car kit in the UK Apple Store
TomTom’s iPhone car kit popped up in the UK Apple Store this morning for pre-order, shipping in an estimated 2 to 3 weeks. Costing £100, the car kit includes the dash or windshield mount and the TomTom navigation app, so it’s not a bad deal. The car kit itself contains a built-in GPS receiver to augment the one the iPhone already has. This will help the app keep a GPS read in so-called ‘urban canyons’ surrounded by tall buildings, in tunnels and under bridges. According to the Apple Store the car kit only works with the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, so I’m not sure what happened to the iPod Touch compatibility. We’ll have to see when the car kit undoubtedly appears in North America later on today!
