PCMag has had the opportunity to review the recently announced TomTom ONE 140S and as a result the new GPS device has been dubbed the best entry-level PND available. While the ONE 140S doesn’t have the native real-time traffic support or Bluetooth of the previous entry-level best, Garmin’s nuvi 265T, the newly crowned top dog does have several features that could be worth the tradeoff. TomTom’s IQ Routes, which improves routing and estimated arrival times by taking into account historical traffic data is one such feature. Advanced lane guidance which routes you into the optimal lane for various maneuvers and multisegment routing are the other two. Furthermore the TomTom ONE 140S is listed as being a full $50 cheaper and for an extra $60 you can buy an external USB real-time traffic receiver anyway. Of course, the one caveat is that Garmin supplies real-time traffic data for free, while TomTom supplies one year free and than roughly $60 per year after that. It’s really a question of what you need, but for a sub-$200 GPS, TomTom ONE 140S is the best model currently available.
