TomTom Start GPS
TomTom has officially announced the TomTom Start entry-level GPS navigator this morning. The unit, “specifically designed for occasional drivers and drivers who haven’t had a chance to experience the benefits of car navigation”, has a 3.5-inch user interface with only two buttons: Plan route and Browse map.
TomTom wants to keep things simple and expand its PND market share into a market thus far non-existent. According to Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director TomTom, in a press release this morning:
“With the introduction of TomTom Start, we have taken another step in democratising navigation by making it easy to use, accessible and affordable, but without compromising on providing drivers with the fastest route. Available in six stylish colours, the TomTom Start is equipped with the unique innovative solutions IQ Routes™ and Map Share™ technology.”
The exchangeable StartSkins, a new thing for TomTom as far as I know, add a flair of personalization to each TomTom Start as well. StartSkins, sold separately, include matching protective bags and are available in Flaming red, Ice blue, Electric green, Deep purple, Sunburst yellow and Flaming orange. Each will be priced at 14.95 euros.
The TomTom Start is available in standard black and white and priced at ?129 with regional maps or ?149 with full European maps. Initially it’ll be available in the UK and Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway.
