Topcon Positioning Systems, a California-based provider of commercial mapping solutions, has introduced the GRS-1 modular handheld. The GPS-enabled mapping system incorporates an optional GSM or CDMA cellular modem, compass and 2 megapixel digital camera, all powered by Windows Mobile. Wireless interfaces include 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and various optional receivers can be added for increased positioning accuracy or access to different network systems. The GRS-1 uses TopSurv-GIS mapping software and can store various files including digital photos and downloaded maps on an SD card. It also has 256 MB of SDRAM and 1 GB of flash memory.
