UK’s Orange Gets Sleazy With Blackberry Maps

by Justin on September 6, 2008

Living in the UK and just picked up a Blackberry Bold from Orange?  Having trouble finding Blackberry Maps?  You’re not the only one.  A bunch of disgruntled Orange customers have turned to the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority after Orange advertised Blackberry Maps support for its newly-carried Blackberry Bold.

Fair enough, but when it turned out that the Bold didn’t support Blackberry Maps, and concerned customers turned to Orange only to be told to download their proprietary mapping app for some extra cash, customers were outraged.  Especially after Orange suspiciously removed Blackberry Maps support from the Bold’s product description on their web page.  A spokesperson for the company says they’re looking into it, but it’s a little too late.

One quick-thinking victim of this vile telecommications scam took screenshots before and after the alleged advertising faux pas.

Damn those thin profit margins, eh Orange?  Might be tough to explain this one!
