The smallest and lightest netbook ever? That’s the big claim behind the UMID mbook, what could be called a sub-netbook, with miniature dimensions of 158 m x 94.1 x 18.6 millimeters and a weight of only 315 grams. The mbook may only have a 4.8-inch display, but it manages to fit 1024 x 600 pixels with stylus-based operation. On one side of the display sits a speaker and on the other side is a 1.3 megapixel web camera. Users have the choice of a 1.1 GHz or 1.3 GHz Intel Atom processor, both with 1 GB of RAM, and Flash storage ranging between 8 GB and 32 GB, all driven by a decent 6 hour battery. Other features include HSDPA broadband connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 and, due to its Korean origin, WiBro–a wireless broadband technology similar to fourth-generation WiMAX. Also, you’ll find a full QWERTY keypad, mini USB 2.0 slot and a 4-in-1 memory card slot. Finally, the UMID mbook is compatible with Korean DMB mobile TV signals so it’s not looking like the world’s smallest and lightest netbook ever will leave South Korean borders. The 1.3 GHz mbook is expected to sell for KRW800, 000 or $534 while the 1.1 GHz will sell for KRW700, 000 or $466.
