Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, apparently excited that Russia’s new GLONASS satellite tracking system could be used for animal positioning, had his dog Koni outfitted with a 6 ounce, transmitter-equipped tracking collar. The PM interrupted a meeting of officials to ask if Koni could be tracked and the dog was immediately given the collar. I think this exchange between Putin and his Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov says it all:
“She looks sad,” Ivanov said. “Her free life is over.”
“She is wagging her tail. That means she likes it,” Putin said.
GLONASS is mainly designed for military use, but it is open for civilian use. Problem is other than Koni’s little issue, there aren’t too many PND’s marketed in Russia.
