Well isn’t this pretty. The VeloCity Cycle Route Guide concept design is what a bicycle-oriented GPS navigation system could look like in the near future. The device is supposed to easily attach to bicycle handlebars and provide turn-by-turn directions via its egg-shaped display. It’s meant to be Bluetooth-compatible so presumably directions could be voice-guided lessening the chance you’ll crash into a fence when looking at the display.
However I have a few bones to pick. First of all this concept design has to be physically tethered to a computer in order to download routes and upload exercise information. Given that Garmin already uses ANT+ technology to transfer information sans wires, I’d hope a futuristic concept design could do better. Second of all, any good bicycle GPS system of the future would have full sensor integration with all of the bike’s moving parts, not only to augment the GPS-measured speed and distance, but also to measure the various physiological changes happening in the human body during exercise. Just my two cents. Very cool concept design nonetheless.
