Verizon Wireless will carry the Palm Pre sometime in the next six months, according to Reuters. Verizon executive Lowell McAdam dropped the bombshell during a webcast this morning, sending Sprint’s stock price in a downward spiral (down 3 percent at the time of this writing).
Sprint will release the Palm Pre on June 6 and is heavily counting on the much-anticipated smartphone to boost its falling subscriber numbers. Palm is arguably counting on the phone’s success even more, but with a verified deal with Verizon, the largest wireless carrier in the United States, Palm investors were happy sending its stock price up 11 percent.
Verizon also revealed that it’ll launch the second version of the Blackberry Storm in the same timeframe. This isn’t much of a surprise though, as it was the exclusive carrier of the original Blackberry Storm which was released last year.
