Earlier this year we saw Viliv’s X7 in-dash GPS, and now we have some specs for the Viliv S5 Mobile Internet Device.
The S5 will have a Samsung-made 4.8-inch touchscreen with resolutions varying between 800 x 480 and 1024 x 600 depending on the model. Powered by a 1.33 GHz Intel Atom CPU and 1 GB RAM, the Viliv S5 is capable of 1080p decoding and playback made more viable by a powerful 6, 200 mAh rechargeable battery. The company claims the battery lasts 4.5 hours even with constant 1080p video playback. It runs Windows XP, has a virtual keyboard and a few connection options including a USB input, single external monitor output, and both input and output ports for audio.
Fanless and quiet, the S5 has a Flash 10-based interface and optional add-ons including GPS, 3G data network access, and a DMB TV tuner. Buyers will have the option of including either a 1.8-inch hard drive or 1.3-inch domestic only drive. Viliv hasn’t released the size of either drive. The S5 is expected to be released in Korea in early 2009 possibly at the Consumer Electronics Show.
The S7 UMPC is also supposed to be released in early 2009 though Viliv hasn’t released hard specs yet. Prices haven’t been released for either model.
