WHERE WAP location-based internet browser launches for Sprint phones

bb WHERE WAP location based internet browser launches for Sprint phonesSprint may have its faults, but interest in location-based services and applications isn’t one of them.  The first major carrier to strike up an OEM relationship with uLocate Communications, the maker of the popular WHERE application, Sprint has extended the long-standing partnership in a new direction.

Beginning today, uLocate will add location features to the WAP internet browser on data-enabled Sprint phones.  Dubbed the WHERE WAP service, the geolocation integration means internet searches on Sprint phones will return local results with or without GPS.  This includes content from a variety of WHERE widgets including weather information from AccuWeather and car rental locations from ZipCar.

Recently, WHERE has launched successfully for both the T-Mobile G1 and Blackberry Storm.  The Android version has since been downloaded over 50, 000 times since launch and both applications have new features not previously available including the WHERE wall, movies, traffic data and news headline.
