LG Electronics was the third largest handset manufacturer in the world in 2008 with 100 million units shipped, beating out Motorola and Sony Ericsson for the first time ever. Motorola was only 100, 000 handsets behind and has quite a few handsets slated for release this year, but with plenty of layoffs and a greater focus on Android in the future, I’m guessing that the company will fall further behind in the coming years. LG, for the record, is expected to ship over 100 new devices this year. Nokia and Samsung round up the first two spots with Nokia shipping 470 million units and Samsung quite a ways behind with 200 million units shipped.
