Networks in Motion Gokivo turn-by-turn GPS app confuses customers

Networks in Motion has already released its Gokivo turn-by-turn GPS application for the iPhone, but when it was released into the App Store on June 17, many people paid $0.99 for it thinking turn-by-turn navigation was included.  Not so, as the feature requires a $9.99 monthly subscription payment which uses the new in-app payment system enabled by the recent iPhone 3.0 update.  For those that were confused by this and paid money for Gokivo but weren’t aware of the subscription fee, Networks in Motion is offering a free iTunes song as a refund.  You can get all the details here.

Back to Gokivo now.  The application combines turn-by-turn GPS technology with Yahoo! Local search and content.  The full feature set includes:

  • hyperlocal, one-click Yahoo! Local searches for bars, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs and other points of interest
  • real-time traffic notifications including traffic tie-ups and road conditions
  • Bluetooth synchronization in-car for music output and audio prompts
  • embedded iPod control so music fades when a navigational audio prompt is required
  • alternate route suggestions provided by shaking the iPhone
  • find address information and directions to any contact in the iPhone

Networks in Motion Gokivo still costs $0.99 in the App Store, but remember you’ll have to pay $9.99 per month for turn-by-turn GPS navigation.  You can also purchase Gokivo Navigator for Blackberry and it was the recent winner of a Windows Mobile-oriented app competition.
