Despite privacy concerns slowing the mobile advertising industry down, Nokia is still pushing the innovation barrier with a mobile ad trial in Finland.
Rather than randomly throw ads at random people on the street, Nokia is testing both its indoor Wi-Fi positioning technology and mobile advertising strategy inside Helsinki’s Kamppi Shopping Center.
Designed to test consumer response, the trial mobile service provides information about the shopping center, indoor maps, and a search function that pinpoints the location of a particular shop or restaurant. Retailers with discounts or sales also offer vouchers and exclusive offers are given to those who test the service.
Nokia plans to extend the trial later this year to bring more customized information to each user.
