Hyperlocal news platform outside.in, able to tell you what’s happening within 1000 feet of you, just raised another round of financing. Though not disclosed just yet, the round was raised from Union Square Ventures, New York City Investment Fund, and Betaworks. Outside.in uses Yahoo’s Fire Eagle to derive your location in order to deliver the most contextual content to you based on your location. This year the company has released StoryMaps, a widget publishers can add to their sites in order to help users navigate stories by location, and the GeoToolkit, the platform under StoryMaps that help publishers contextually localize and monetize their content. The company claims to have grown 400% in its traffic levels since the beginning of 2008.
