TomTom will be the first major PND brand to bring an internet-connected GPS device to the United States with the debut of its GO 740 LIVE. This is the same model launched in Europe back in November 2008, but unfortunately while Europe gets TomTom’s HD Traffic service, we won’t. According to GPS Business News, TomTom is having trouble finding a carrier partner to support the service.
The GO 740 LIVE will include a one-year free subscription to TomTom’s live services that includes real-time traffic updates, Google Local search, gas prices and weather data. TomTom has also improved its IQ Routes software which uses historical traffic data to improve routing information. Amazingly it now covers 3 minute increments of every road in the United States. The American GO 740 LIVE will also have improved speech recognition and better junction coverage for its advanced lane guidance.
As for live subscription pricing after the first year, TomTom hasn’t released that information. But you’ll be able to pick up the GO 740 LIVE in the United States during the second quarter of 2009 for $499.
