Pelago has put an entirely new spin on its popular Whrrl application by launching Whrrl v2.0 for the iPhone and iPod Touch at South by Southwest Interactive in Austin, Texas. Taking the focus off the ubiquitous friend-finding we’re seeing these days, Whrrl v2.0 instead focuses on location-based storytelling.
Users can update their Whrrl accounts by sharing location, uploading pictures and text updates in what amounts to a threaded story that can be weaved into content from other users nearby. This could be really handy at events like SXSW, trade shows, or gatherings of any size because you end up with a story told from multiple points of view. Afterward you can go online, edit the story-which will have a unique URL-and share it with your friends on social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
“The story format for sharing life experiences is very exciting, because stories are the source of so much inspiration,” said Jeff Holden, Founder and CEO of Pelago, in a statement. “We deeply believe that people will, through the stories of others, find new and diverse opportunities for adventure and human connection in their lives that they otherwise would have missed. Whrrl v2.0 for the revolutionary iPhone and iPod touch makes it incredibly simple for people to capture and share the moments of their lives – fun, silly, crazy or otherwise – with anyone they choose, from any location, at any time.”
All the requisite privacy caveats are worked into Whrrl v2.0 so you have complete control over who you share your information with, if anyone at all. You can grab the app now for free from iTunes.
