During Motorola’s earnings call this morning, chief executive Sanjay Jha finally admitted Motorola will be primarily focusing on Android handsets in 2009.
From Seeking Alpha:
“As you know, Windows 6 series is available in 2009 and as compared to Android, we believe in 2009 Android is more competitive; more of our effort and focus in 2009 is going to Android, but in 2010 when Windows 7 will become available, we will then participate in a more focused way in Windows Mobile 7 in 2010.”
Thank you Sanjay. It has been widely believed that Motorola would focus mainly on Android phones this year, especially after a slew of Windows Mobile developers were recently laid off in Plantation, Florida.
Up until now, Motorola spokespeople have beat around the bush and denied, denied, denied. But I suppose a denial isn’t exactly a lie, especially as Jha pointed out that once Windows Mobile 7 comes to life, the company may change its focus again.
